About

A watched pot never boils, at least that’s what they say. But what else could you be missing? What might you see and learn by keeping your attention focused, by watching the pot?

For me, the joy of cooking is to be found in paying attention: in understanding not only what is needed to prepare a given dish and how the ingredients should be combined, but more importantly why the process works. Once you start paying attention to the why, new avenues start opening in all directions waiting to be explored – rising out of the pot like ribbons of steam.

This platform is a place to follow these strands and see where they lead, discovering what can be learned from the food we eat and the stories that are told every time we fire up the hob. It’s also a site of exploration and experimentation for home cooks like myself; a communal space to share favourite dishes, newly discovered recipes and culinary insights.

If you’re interested in writing an article, exploring a potential idea, or just want to get in touch you can contact me at max@watchingthepot.com or follow @watching_the_pot on Instagram. It would be great to hear from you.
